Invented by G5RV amateur, R. Louis VARNEY published for the first time the technical documentation of its antenna in November 1966.

The G5RV wire antenna have 2 versions: 1/2 half size, about 16 meters long, covering 4 HF Amateur bands from 7 to 30 Mhz 40/20/15/10m, or full size of about 31 meters long and covering 5 HF bands from 3.5 to 30Mhz: 80/40/20/15/10m.

  • Multiband with excellent result on amateur bands 80/40/20m, good on 30m and 17m, and average for 15/12/10m
  • Efficient for local traffic and DX when placed high above the ground above 10 meters (7m minimum)
  • Small footprint and lightweight portable
  • Does not require a balun to operate, the two-wire line (frog ladder) is used to adapt directly to 50 ohms.

To use G5RV in multi-band, without any risk for transceiver, the G5RV antenna must be associated to a tuner.

Delivered to assembly: 2 long wires, 2 insulators mounted at the end of the 2 wires, 1 ribbon cable connector SO-239 (UHF-Female), assembly instructions.

This antenna need to be use with a coaxial cable of 50 ohms with a length of between 14 and 28 meters recommanded. For use in multi-band, without risk for the transceiver, the G5RV antenna requiere a tuner.

The ribbon coax cable must be held vertically for best results G5RV the antenna should be mounted as high as possible, with its center at least at 7 meters from ground (10 meters ideally), and can be mounted in horizontal or inverted V position (with an angle between 90° and 120° max).

suite a une nouvelle installation rapide , achat pratique et fonctionnelle s\'accorde correctement avec seulement la boite de couplage integré du 17m 160 m sans soucis sur les bandes au dessus, ca fonctionne aussi mais c\'est preferable de passer par une verticale.

Cette antenne est excellente pour quelqu'un qui ne veut pas se prendre la tête, j'en utilise une depuis 20 ans, (fabrication maison, car vu le prix pour quelques bouts de fils !) Mais comme toute antenne qui fait tout, elle est moins bonne qu'un multi-doublets taillé précisément pour chaque bandes choisies, moi, elle ne s'accorde pas du tout sur 10m, pare-contre elle s'accorde sur 160m. mais avec un rendement minimum, 73s à tous !!

ATTENTION l'antenne est très bonne en réception uniquement en émission il y a beaucoup de tos et impossible de calibrer l'antenne avec une boite accord je la recommande pour la réception uniquement.

Merci de votre retour d'expérience, toutefois cette antenne fonctionne parfaitement en émission et avec un tuner automatique comme pour toutes les G5RV.

Pour fonctionner correctement en émission, cette antenne doit être installée en respectant plusieurs critères :

- Le sommet de l'antenne doit être à 7m minimum au dessus du sol, 10m étant recommandé
- L'antenne doit être montée soit en position horizontale et elle est dans ce cas directionnelle, soit en V inversé et elle est alors omnidirectionnelle, en respectant un angle compris entre 90° minimum et 120° maximum,
- Le câble coaxial ruban doit être tenu verticalement et éloigné de tout support métallique

Sans le respect de ces contraintes, l'antenne aura du ROS.
